The Wedding Prayer


K-1

Most merciful and gracious God, bestow upon ________ and __________ the seal of your divine approval. Bind them together with the strength of the Holy Spirit that they may be joined with an everlasting bond of ready forgiveness and sacrificial love. Grant them grace, dear Lord, to fulfill the vows and covenant made today.

We pray that _______ and _________'s lives will be an adventure filled with the richness of a deeply shared intimacy.

Give them wisdom and devotion to the ordering of their common life, that each may be to the other a strength in need, a counselor in perplexity, a comfort in sorrow, a companion in joy.

Give them grace, when they hurt each other to recognize and acknowledge their fault, and to seek each other's forgiveness and ours.

Give them peace openly and honestly to express their feelings and share their deepest selves.

Give them Spirit to foster personal and spiritual growth that will lead to mutual fulfillment.

Make their life together a sign of Christ's love to our broken world, that unity may overcome estrangement, forgiveness heal guilt, and joy conquer despair.

Dear God, this is a magic moment for many. For parents who have provided loving homes, proper guidance, and increasing support, we give our thanks. For brothers and sisters who are very close and have cared in so many ways, we are grateful. And for friends who have nurtured and helped us grow, we are thankful. Send the richness of your presence upon all those who are in the communion of joy with ____________ and ___________________ on this their wedding day.

Most Holy God, bless this marriage, and may all our lives be lived in the fullness of love that comes from you. This we pray through your Son. Amen.

Eternal God, creator and preserver of all life, author of salvation and giver of all grace; look with favor upon the world you have made and redeemed, and especially upon _________ and __________. Grant that their wills may be so knit together in your will, and their spirits in your Spirit, that they may grow in love and peace with you and each other all the days of their life.

Give them such fulfillment of their mutual love that they may reach out in concern for others.

Give to them, if it is your will, the gift of children, and the wisdom to bring them up to know you, to love you, and to serve You.

Grant that all who have witnessed these vows today may find their lives strengthened, and that all who are married may depart with their own promises renewed.

Grant that the bonds of our common humanity, by which all your children are united one to another, may be so transformed by your Spirit that your peace and justice may fill the earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
